Expectations

Students are expected to attend classes regularly and arrive to each meeting on time with good learning attitudes. Students will be responsible for completing the in between hours of assignments outside of class each week. The primary learning opportunity for this course will be through reading, stories, watching videos, completing home assignments, sharing together what we are learning with back-and-forth exchange and learning through song.  All assignments and grades will be recorded through Schoology
Grading

Grading is a group effort between the instructor, the parent, and the charter schoolteacher. Since students only spend two hours a week in class, our time will focus on in class subject matter while general assignments will be done at home. Grade is pass or fail with an assessment from the teacher. You may request a letter grade if you would like one.

Weekly
Work
Students agree to complete their chapter packets and to complete their general assignments. Grade based on effort and completion
Exams: Administered tests and assignments will be given with the option of retaking coursework until it passes with B level coursework. B grade or above.
Field  Trips There may be class field trips, but also if students visit any historical sites they may also write a report or tell about their adventure.

Students are encouraged to do their best and may have as many “tries” as they like to complete any assignment. The goal of the class is to completely learn the subject matter.

Please Read, Sign, and Return to instructor, Margie Hartung:

I have read, understand, and agree to the course expectations. I agree to regularly participate in parent/student/teacher communications. I understand that the instructor will only give grades for the in-class portion of the course work, including all labs and projects, using the online system Schoology. Chapter question and exams must be taken on Schoology in order to be automatically graded. I understand that, as the primary teacher, I will monitor my student’s grade on Schoology no less than once per month. I also understand that if my student’s grade falls below a 70%, a student/parent/teacher meeting may be called to help the student get back on track.
