Course Syllabus
Fall 2025- Spring 2026
Course Purpose and Description

This course will focus on American History, beginning with the earliest Native American cultures and the first explorers, starting with Leif Erikson and continuing through those who significantly impacted the Americas, particularly the British Colonies. We will then explore the period of colonization, examining the three colonial regions, followed by the Revolutionary War and the nation's early expansion through to the Civil War. Our primary framework will be the Beautiful Feet curriculum, though not all of the recommended books will be read. The selected literature will serve as a foundation for understanding the broader historical narrative, helping to provide depth and continuity. In addition, they will learn the basic earmarks of American cultural history such as the Flag Salute, memorizing the, “We Hold these Truths’ portion of the Declaration of Independence, “America the Beautiful” and other American songs. In all they will learn of the early development of the United States and the unique tenants that make us American.
